SAINT-MICHEL PRISON

Through an exceptional opportunity, I spent two hours inside the now-disused Saint-Michel prison in Toulouse to carry out a photographic project. There, I explored the remains of a place steeped in history, mystery, and emotion.

Toulouse's Saint-Michel prison has a long history, dating back to the 19th century, and has seen generations of inmates pass through its doors. Entering its deserted walls today can be both captivating and unsettling. The dark corridors, the empty cells, the graffiti left by former prisoners—all of it tells a story that is both fascinating and grim.

This work was exhibited at Seysses prison to the inmates, and was the subject of an exhibition catalogue on St-Michel prison published in 2022.
