FORGOTTEN SHOWCASE

The closed and forgotten shop windows across France evoke a vision that is both melancholic and intriguing, reflecting the economic and social realities that have shaped the country over time. These shop windows, once bustling with commercial activity and the dreams of entrepreneurs, are now frozen in time, silent witnesses to a bygone era.

I walk the streets of towns and villages across France, and I very often come across these abandoned shop windows, with dusty facades and faded signs. They carry within them the history of small businesses, family shops, and artisans who once brought these spaces to life, the reflections

of local life.

Their closure is often the result of various economic and social factors, such as increased competition from large chains, changing consumer preferences, gentrification of neighborhoods, or even economic recession. They have become silent victims of the evolution of our society and lifestyles. They also bear witness to the passage of time, the evolution of urban architecture, and the transformation of cityscapes. Each storefront tells a unique story, and traces of past activities can still be discerned in the objects left inside, the sun-faded signs, and the curtains drawn for years.
